Landmark Elementary Schools Annual Field Trip to the Court of Appeals

Fourth-graders from Landmark Elementary School experienced a real-world illustration of classroom concepts during their visit to the Court of Appeals' courtroom on April 11, 2019. Judge Carla Wong McMillian talked to the students about the legal process that brings cases before her, the mechanics of a lawyer's argument before the appellate court, and the path she took to become a judge. The students also asked questions ranging from what happens if the judges disagree with each other to what was the hardest case she ever decided.

Each student then took the opportunity to enter the courtroom through the judges' special sliding doors and sit at the bench to pose for photographs. After visiting the courtroom and seeing where some of the Judicial Branch of government conducts business, the class continued on to the State Capitol to see where the Executive and Legislative branches work.
