Presiding Judge M. Yvette Miller delivered the keynote speech at this year’s Annual Judicial Reception by the Columbus Chapter of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers.
In her speech, the judge reflected on her life path and her trailblazing journey to a seat on the Court of Appeals of Georgia, where she has served for 25 years. She was the first African American woman to serve on the Court, as well as the first to serve as the court’s Chief Judge. And as Chief Judge, Presiding Judge Miller implemented the e-filing initiative, which has improved access to the appellate court for attorneys and parties throughout the state of Georgia.
Presiding Judge Miller ran unopposed in four elections to the Court of Appeals, each with a six-year term. In her speech to a large crowd of lawyers and judges in Columbus, Presiding Judge Miller discussed how the court has changed during her tenure, and about the legacy she will leave when she retires at the end of this year.
The Court of Appeals judges and staff appreciate everything Presiding Judge Miller has done for the court and its staff, and for her dedicated service to the judiciary as a whole and to the entire state of Georgia.
